Whiteknee was contacted to build a structure that would serve as a Maloka for Minka Lab. A Maloka is a traditional structure of many Indigenous communities that inhabit the Andean Region of South America which serves as the physical space to realize special ceremonies. After studying precedents with the Minka Lab organization, a decision was taken to put a contemporary spin on the project. We decided to create a geodesic dome relying upon materials from the region. The primary structural member was created with Guadua (similar to Bamboo) and the structure was assembled and constructed with local artisans and friends.
